100+ Interesting Stats About Organic Agriculture in 2020

March 19, 2020Health & Wellness

The trend of healthy eating has taken over the world. More people are starting to worry about what they eat on a daily basis as they become more conscious about the health benefits of organic food.

Namely, 83% of Americans buy organic, while 91% of Irish consumers believe that organic products are healthier than non-organic ones.

The organic agriculture industry has blossomed in the last several years. Among the top nations of organic food growers are Australia, China, and Argentina.

There are almost three million organic growers in the world today, with India having over 800,000 alone. However, the biggest market for organic food consumption is the United States. Americans have a total market size of nearly $17,000, four times as much as second-placed Germany.

Organic products can be purchased in multiple stores. Supermarkets account for 24% of the distribution channel, while there are also specialized supermarkets for people who exclusively eat organic.

Other distribution channels include discount stores, drug stores, self-service department stores, and bakeries, while a lot of people also buy organic food over the internet.

The spike in organic food sales goes hand-in-hand with the growing trend of veganism. That’s why the biggest market revenue share of organic food is taken by fruits and vegetables. However, organic dairy products and fresh meat make up over one-quarter of the share as well.

Around 21% of consumers are core consumers, meaning that they buy organic food all the time and often talk about it. Approximately 65% of consumers are mid-level, slowly changing their habits and buying organic products more regularly. Finally, there are 14% of people who are labeled as periphery consumers, leaning toward the idea of buying organic but are not quite there yet.

Organic food is popular among all age groups. Another demographic research showed that 28% of consumers are aged 18-29, 26% are aged 30-49, while as many as 23% of consumers are 50-64 years old.

There are a lot more interesting and useful organic food stats. If you’re interested in this topic, we believe that it’s best to show it to you in the form of an infographic that you can see below. Enjoy!
