5 Things to Remember When You Feel Lost

May 6, 2016Health & Wellness

When inspiration comes, it is something to be cherished. A new idea can lead to change, success, and some amazing creations. But there are times when inspiration seems far away, and feelings of hopelessness can become overwhelming. Everyone feels this way at some point or another, but it’s important to remember that you’ll survive it. These low points can actually make you stronger, make you work harder and help you realize what it is you truly want. If you’re feeling slightly lost or broken right now, remember these five important things to help you get through it.

1. Don’t Fight Your Feelings

In hopes of maintaining a tough exterior, you might be in the habit of holding in your emotions. Instead of pretending that everything is OK, try allowing yourself to express what you’re feeling. Know that others have gone through exactly what you’re going through. Eventually, they pulled themselves out of the rut, and you will too. If you’re feeling hurt, angry or rejected, find an outlet to express your emotions in a healthy but effective way. Let yourself process them, instead of trying to hide them.

2. Spend Time With Friends and Family

We tend to curl up, lay in bed and hide from the world when we’re feeling sad or hurt. As much as you might not want to answer your phone, go out with your friends or visit your family, spending time with people who love you and care about you can help you get back on your feet. Your true friends and family will support you and encourage you to keep working toward your goals.

And don’t forget that laughter is the best medicine.friends 2

3. Look at the Bigger Picture

Try to see past the heartache you’re experiencing and look further into the future. You might be in a really tough situation right now, but if one door was closed, another will open. Instead of obsessing over what could have been, think about how you can use your experience to help you move on. Maybe there’s a lesson to be learned. Maybe it will serve as a new motivation for you. Just don’t give up.

4. Find Your Happy Place

It’s easy to get caught up in thinking about all of the things that went wrong, but try focusing on all of the good things in your life instead. One bad experience doesn’t erase all the good things — the people you care about, your passions, your hobbies. Getting back on your feet can take time, but start with focusing your energy into something positive that will bring you joy.happy girl

5. Know That This Will Pass

As impossible as it may seem, the pain that you’re feeling is temporary. You might be down, stuck in a rut, broken or confused, but eventually, you’ll find something that brings you happiness, and you’ll make a tough decision to move on. Don’t let a disappointment or bad experience define you. Life has ups and downs. It’s crazy, unpredictable and beautiful all at the same time. Accept this phase in your life as something that is temporary, and focus instead on all of the possibilities waiting on the horizon.
